- See my previous reply to you "Re: Disabling protocols! Can this
- be done?". In short, no, it can't be done. You can't make a 28.8
- connection without vFC or v.34. In fact, all that vFC or v.34 are in the
- modem for is to allow them to make 28.8 connections. They're the very
- reason WHY you have a 28.8 modem. If you disable vFC and v.34 (which can
- be done through the S110 setting), you can NOT make a 28.8 connection. If
- you where able to disable vFC, v.34, v.32bis, v.32, and all the other
- protocols, you'd be left with a useless PCB in your computer that could do
- nothing but receive AT commands. That wouldn't make for a very smooth
- Doom game :>. Anyway, if you want a straight asynchronous 28.8
- connection, you need to disable error control and data compression but
- leave v.34 on. Of course, you probably don't want to do this since you'll
- end up with a bunch of line noise coming through that your software has to
- fix, which will give you a "jerky" game. You're best bet would be to
- disable error control and data compression, then force a 14.4 connection.
- 14.4 is fast enough for Doom, and should have a lot less line noise.
